Austria are back to their best as they convincingly brush off Poland 3-1 in Berlin.

Trauner’s header opened the scoring early but Poland quickly found the leveller with Başakşehir’s Krzysztof Piątek.

Leipzig’s ace midfielder Christoph Baumgartner brought the Austrians back in front in the second half with a great finisher. Poland’s attempts to equalise opened counterattack opportunities that led up to Austria earning and scoring a late penalty with Inter’s Marko Arnautović, his third goal in three Euros editions (2016, 2020, 2022).

Poland however missed a massive opportunity to narrow the gap as Kamil Grosicki fired a good cross off the left post at 93′.

This is the first time Austria beat Poland in a major football competition, while Poland’s defeat is the second consecutive one at Euro 2024, as the side remain with zero points in the group.

Poland – Austria: Gernot Trauner 9′ (AUS), Krzysztof Piątek 30′ (POL), Christoph Baumgartner 66′ (AUS), Marko Arnautović 78′ (penalty, AUS)

Ukraine 2-1 Slovakia: Ukraine get off the mark with class Yaremchuk finish

The situation in Grop E remains open to any scenario after Ukraine put on a brilliant comeback against Slovakia to earn their first three points at Euro 2024.

The Ukrainians burst with joy at minute 80′ when Roman Yaremchuk netted the 2-1 after a class first-touch and finish.

Belgium will try to reach the other three group contenders at three points when it face off against Romania at 21.00 on Saturday.

Ukraine 2-1 Slovakia: Ivan Schranz 17′ (SLO), Mykola Shaparenko 54′ (UKR), Roman Yaremchuk 80′ (UKR)
