Australians will light candles on Sunday to mark the moment the first shots rang out at Bondi Beach a week ago.

At Bondi Pavilion, Indigenous leaders held a smoking ceremony beside a growing memorial of flowers and notes.

Governor-General Sam Mostyn joined hundreds of women and girls dressed in white to lay flowers, after an invitation from Jewish groups.

Flags flew at half-staff, buildings were lit yellow, and broadcasters paused for a minute’s silence at 6:47 p.m.

The attack on a Jewish festival during Hanukkah killed 15 people and left the country shaken.
