The IKSHA Foundation’s Young Visionary, Kalvin Richard, Leading a Revolution in Education and Sustainability

New Delhi (India), January 23: The Iksha Foundation, established in 2021 by the visionary 17-year-old social entrepreneur Kalvin Richard, has emerged as a beacon of hope and change in the landscape of social impact. Rooted in a profound commitment to address pressing societal issues, the foundation operates at the intersection of sustainability and education. Under Kalvin’s dynamic leadership, The Iksha Foundation has pioneered transformative projects that not only respond to immediate needs but also foster long-term positive change.

At the core of The Iksha Foundation’s initiatives is a holistic approach that integrates environmental consciousness with educational empowerment. The CTRL S project, launched in June 2022, symbolizes this commitment by addressing the dual challenges of insufficient school supplies and paper wastage, through innovative book donation drives and partnerships with industry leaders like ITC Pvt. Ltd, The Iksha Foundation not only recycles tons of used notebooks and scrap paper but also provides new notebooks to thousands of underprivileged students across India. The foundation’s sustainable and self-sufficient model not only uplifts communities but also instills a sense of responsibility and awareness among the recipients, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

The unique aspect of CTRL S lies in its self-sufficient cycle, promising stationery for the next year if the students return the provided notebooks for recycling. Under Kalvin’s leadership, this initiative has recycled over 22 tons of old notebooks and scrap paper, benefiting more than 8000 students in various states throughout India.

In its inaugural project, CovAction, launched in 2021, Iksha raised over 1.2 Lakhs in a single month to provide essential supplies to individuals who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic. This initiative not only supported nearly 850 people with half a year’s supply of living essentials but also prioritized sustainability by using cornstarch bags instead of single-use plastic.

The Iksha Foundation registered as a charitable trust on October 29, 2022, has secured partnerships with prominent companies such as ITC Pvt. Ltd and Decathlon under Kalvin’s leadership. His dedication to sustainability earned him a nomination for the World Sustainability Award 2023 under the Circular Economy category, where he was the youngest nominee, demonstrating the significant impact of his work.

Furthermore, Kalvin was selected as one of the top 6 finalists in the Glocal Teen Hero India awards by the Embassy of Nepal, recognizing his exceptional contributions. In July 2023, he organized Shikshathon, a marathon fundraiser in collaboration with Decathlon, garnering over 700 registrations to support Iksha’s cause. Kalvin also spearheaded IkshaMUN, a Model United Nations fundraiser engaging 140 high school delegates in discussions on global issues and creating solutions.

Kalvin Richard’s passion for providing for hardworking, disadvantaged students stems from his personal understanding of their struggles as a student himself. His vision is to create a lasting positive impact on people’s lives through the widespread influence of his work.
