On behalf of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Washington, D.C., and the United Somali Alliance, Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C. efficiently lobbied for the Biden Administration to evaluate and begin Somalia’s AGOA eligibility course of after 32 years of Somalia being overlooked of AGOA. NOTE: AGOA is a preferential commerce program that enables international locations in sub-Saharan Africa to export merchandise to the United States tariff-free. In 2020, the Norwegian seismic survey firm, TGS, estimated that the Somali basin holds offshore reserves of about 30 billion barrels of crude oil. This, plus AGOA, will change Somalia’s financial system perpetually.

CURRENT U.S.-SOMALIA BACKGROUND
Somalia is at the moment the United States’ 168th largest items buying and selling companion, with $106 million in whole (two-way) items commerce throughout 2019. U.S. items exports to Somalia in 2019 have been $105 million. That is in contrast to U.S. items exports to Ethiopia, totaling $1.0 billion. Items imported from Somalia to the U.S. in 2019 totaled $992,000. That is in contrast to items imported from Ethiopia to the U.S., totaling $572 million in 2019.
