Pratibha Prabhakar Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centre Organizes Symposium on Importance of Oxygen for Pulmonary Disease Patients
Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 5: The COVID-19 pandemic has imparted invaluable lessons on the importance of monitoring key health indicators such as body temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate, and, most critically, oxygen levels. Timely access to oxygen is especially vital for patients with pulmonary diseases, underscoring the essential role of oxygen in maintaining health.
To highlight the significance of a healthy lifestyle and proper oxygen supply for individuals with pulmonary diseases, Pratibha Prabhakar Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centre recently organized a symposium in Goregaon, Mumbai. The event featured prominent philanthropist and social welfare advocate Dr. Dhananjay Datar, who attended the program and generously donated oxygen kits to five patients who require regular oxygen support but are unable to afford the necessary equipment.
Each oxygen kit included an oxygen concentrator for home use, a portable oxygen machine for use during travel, and a pulse oximeter to monitor blood oxygen levels.
Dr. Dhananjay Datar, the CMD of Al Adil Trading Group, UAE, shared his personal connection to the cause: “My mother suffered from a pulmonary illness in her final days and struggled to breathe properly. The pain of watching her suffer left an indelible mark on me. It’s heartbreaking to see people today, in desperate need of oxygen, unable to afford the equipment. During the pandemic, many lost their lives due to a lack of timely oxygen, and some couldn’t even reach a hospital because of unavailable transport. To address this, we financially supported a unique initiative called ‘Rickshaw Ambulance,’ where an auto-rickshaw is equipped with an oxygen cylinder and serves as a mobile ambulance. Today’s donation is a small step, and we are committed to helping more patients in the future.”
The program was organized by Dr. Poorvi Devani, a seasoned expert in the treatment and rehabilitation of pulmonary disease patients. She emphasized that individuals suffering from pulmonary conditions can lead healthy and fulfilling lives by adopting positive thinking, receiving proper treatment, maintaining a disciplined lifestyle, and engaging in regular exercise. Additionally, counseling and rehabilitation play a crucial role in helping patients live with optimism.
Dr. Prahlad Prabhudesai and his wife Mrs. Vaishali Prabhudesai, founders of the Pratibha Prabhakar Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centre, shared insights into the activities and social work of the center. Dr. Prabhudesai underscored the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, understanding the value of breath, and prioritizing good health.
Dr. Sheilja Sing, Consultant Physician and Lifestyle Consultant, also addressed the audience, delivering a lecture on ‘Emotional Well-Being and its Impact on Health’, further enriching the symposium.
