Kindness Practice Foundation Organizes Free Cancer Awareness Camp in Mumbai to Promote Early Detection and Prevention
Mumbai, Maharashtra, June 5, 2023 — In response to the growing number of cancer cases across India, the Kindness Practice Foundation, a Section 8 NGO focused on preventive and mental health, hosted a Free Cancer Awareness Camp in Mumbai. The event aimed to spread clinically evidenced information about cancer and offered free diagnostic cancer screening to attendees.
Dr. Rachna Chhachhi, Founder of the Kindness Practice Foundation, emphasized the importance of early detection in improving cancer outcomes, stating, “Cancer does not discriminate based on gender, ethnicity, race, or health status. Early detection can significantly improve the chances of successful treatment.” Dr. Chhachhi, an Integrative Cancer, Nutrition, and Mental Health Expert, has been working with cancer patients across 27 countries for the past 15 years.
Free Screening and Support from Healthians
The event featured Healthians, a prominent diagnostic lab network with over 250 labs across India, offering free cancer screenings to attendees. Deepak Sahni, Founder & CEO of Healthians, shared his insights, stating, “For the past decade, we have witnessed the heartbreaking impact of breast cancer, particularly in Tier 2, Tier 3 cities, and rural areas. Our focus is not just on treating the illness, but on highlighting the urgent need for early diagnosis through next-gen technology and preventive healthcare.” Breast, lung, and colorectal cancers are among the most prevalent types in India.
Cancer Warriors and Survivors Share Their Stories
The camp was attended by cancer patients and their supporters, with several survivors themselves speaking about their journeys. Many of the speakers were cancer survivors, including Rinku Agrawal, who heads the cancer awareness division for the foundation in Patna. “In February 2021, I was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer,” she shared. “While undergoing traditional treatments, I also received integrative cancer care with Dr. Rachna Chhachhi. This combined approach helped me heal, and today, my friends and family are amazed that I ever had cancer.” Rinku continues to raise awareness about cancer in Bihar.
The camp also saw inspiring participation from Dipali Theckedath, a two-time cancer survivor leading the Mumbai chapter, Bhavna Sreshth, an ovarian cancer survivor heading Maharashtra, and Sonali Gupta, a Leiomyosarcoma cancer warrior for the Delhi chapter.
A Mother’s Courage: Jasmine Gulati’s Fight for Cancer Awareness
One of the most poignant moments came from Jasmine Gulati from Patiala, Punjab, who tragically lost her six-year-old son to cancer. Jasmine has since dedicated her life to raising cancer awareness for young mothers. “I’m a mother who has lost my firstborn to cancer. No mother should have to go through that,” she said. “That’s why I’m here, to support the cause and help young mothers recognize the early signs of cancer and save their children’s lives. My son has given me this courage.”
Cancer Prevention and the Importance of Early Detection
The growing number of cancer cases in India is partially due to unhealthy behaviors triggered by chronic stress, including smoking, overeating, sedentary lifestyles, and alcohol consumption. These habits contribute to lifestyle cancers, which make up the majority of cancer cases in the country. Currently, approximately 1.5 million people in India are battling cancer, with many more under-reported cases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is the leading cause of death globally, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020 — roughly one in six deaths. Women are particularly vulnerable, with one-third of cancer deaths linked to avoidable factors like tobacco use, alcohol consumption, poor diet, and lack of physical activity.
The camp aimed to raise awareness about these risk factors while offering a practical handout on cancer prevention to each participant after their diagnostic screening.
A Step Toward Greater Awareness and Prevention
The Save Earth Mission is committed to spreading the message of early detection and prevention through such initiatives, helping to combat the rising incidence of cancer in India and globally. By educating the public, the camp hopes to encourage healthier lifestyles and empower individuals to take control of their health.
