5 Highway Projects That Use Strata Global’s Products

New Delhi [India], December 9: As a leading manufacturer of geosynthetic materials in India, Strata Global has been reshaping the highways in India. With products such as StrataWeb (geocells), StrataGrid (uniaxial geogrid) industry defying performance and StrataTex HSR (geotextile), Strata Global’s products are a common choice for highways and road improvement projects around the country. Whether it’s rebuilding roads in ecologically sensitive areas, or helping add strong highways to India’s transportation infrastructure, Strata Global’s 200+ strong team of engineers works with clients end to end supporting all their needs.

Ghazipur landfill, New Delhi

One such achievement is the erosion protection work at the Ghazipur landfill in New Delhi. This site was located adjacent to a highway with the risk of severe soil erosion due to rainfall and strong winds. To stabilize the landfill slope, Strata Global used StrataGrid™ uniaxial geogrids to reinforce soil layers and to provide long-term durability. In addition to anchoring the slope naturally, adding vegetation created an effective and environmentally friendly solution.

Trichy, NH- 227, Tamil Nadu

Under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative, this particular part of the NH 227 road was located in water-saturated soil and flood-prone paddy land. By constructing a reinforced soil wall, almost like a loop, 11 feet in height, while managing a critical junction where 4-lane and 2-lane sections diverged. The team of engineers used a Reinforced Soil Wall (RS wall) using its proprietary product, StrataBlock, with StrataGrid to reinforce the walls, level the ground and create a stable structure. Through this looped reinforced soil wall at Trichy, the team demonstrated how its products can be used in challenging terrains while deploying cost-effective solutions.

Kedarnath road reconstruction, Uttarakhand

In a region prone to landslides and floods, Strata Global’s advanced approach to road reconstruction helped Kedarnath. Floods in the past caused serious damage, prompting the company to use StrataWeb® Geocells as a way to reinforce loose soil and provide a durable road base. A key goal of the project was to ensure construction of such roads,

that could easily keep pace with heavy traffic but at the same time fit in perfectly with their surrounding natural terrain.  With heavy rainfall, and erosion at the key challenges, geocells provide much needed containment of the soil on mountain roads, while reinforcing the structures with a tensile strength that defies typical gabion mesh techniques, or concrete and stonewall methods. This long-term solutioning is what distinguishes Strata’s products and applications from traditional road construction methods for stability, longevity and high performance.

NH44, connecting Assam and Tripura

In Tripura, landslides and erosion had disrupted transportation and isolated communities. To tackle this problem, Strata Global responded with a combination of soil reinforcement techniques, including soil nailing, ground anchors, and StrataWeb® geocells. Free from maintenance, stabilization of embankments and repair of roads provided for economic and social connectivity. Through environmentally responsible methods of operating, the company showed its desire to be a sustainable engineer in difficult terrains.

India’s first vertical landfill, Vapi, Gujarat

Strata Global constructed India’s first vertical landfill to support highway infrastructure. For the project we reinforced the boundaries of the landfill with StrataGrid™ geogrids, integrated drainage systems for managing leachate, and stabilized the foundation to prevent soil erosion. Using this novel method kept the landfill open longer while safeguarding the protection of the nearby highway threatened by instability.

Strata Global stands out as a leader in the civil engineering space, combining cutting-edge technology with a commitment to sustainability and innovation. The company, based in India, has gained a reputation for its ability to solve some of the biggest infrastructure challenges in different terrains. As a dual-certified geotechnical and geosynthetics company, we utilize expertise across geogrids, geocells, and advanced drainage solutions for large-scale projects.

Strata Global is also an advocate for environmentally responsible construction outside of engineering. Every project is integrated with eco-friendly practices, where every structure is designed for minimal disruption to natural habitats and to increase the

resilience and longevity of the environment. At Strata Global, with a strong focus on research and development that continues to keep them at the forefront of new ways to innovate, they are a choice given that customers like Strata Global can balance development with ecological care.

As India continues to expand its highway network to meet growing demands, Strata Global remains at the forefront, delivering sustainable and resilient infrastructure solutions. Strata Global’s work has demonstrated its vision of engineering excellence with a green conscience in stabilizing landslide-prone areas and creating robust foundations for high-traffic highways.
