The Golden Boy of Kolkata brings immense pride to the nation again

Umang Jaiswal Shines at Powerlifting World Cup, Bringing Glory to India

New Delhi, India, June 19: Umang Jaiswal, a resident of Kolkata, West Bengal, has brought immense pride to his hometown and the entire nation. His extraordinary achievement at the Powerlifting World Cup, held in St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 13th, 2023, was made possible with the unwavering support of his late mother, Mrs. Anuradha Jaiswal.

Umang secured the gold medal in the men’s junior Under-90kg category (drug-tested division) with an impressive lift of over 500 kilograms, showcasing his incredible strength. This victory at the international level adds another remarkable milestone to his career.

In addition to his gold medal performance, Umang also earned a bronze medal in Strict Curls, a sport unfamiliar to him. Strict Curls, a form of arm lifting, was a new challenge for Umang. Just 12 hours before the competition, he received guidance on how to perform the move. Relying on his existing strength and applying his knowledge of powerlifting techniques, Umang managed to secure a spot in the top three out of 11 contestants.

“I am deeply grateful to my sponsors for making this journey possible,” says Umang. “I would especially like to thank Miraj Sir, Pradeep Sir, Jitendra Bhai Shah, Sports Officer Munna Bhaiya, and Bhavin Sir for their invaluable contributions to my success,” he adds.

Umang trains at VFA Gym in Kolkata under the mentorship of Vineet Mishra. “I will never forget the countless hours Vineet Sir spent training me, pushing me beyond my limits, and helping me discover my true strength. His patience and expertise have been a true blessing,” says Umang.

Umang also expresses his gratitude to Amber Jha, President of Jan Dwar Mission, for his unwavering support. “I worked as a personal trainer at Anytime Fitness in Kolkata, where I balanced my college studies, training, and work. Amber Bhaiya, whom I met during my time at the gym, has been like an older brother to me. He supported me throughout my journey and generously sponsored me for this competition,” shares Umang.

From starting at the district level, Umang quickly advanced to state-level and national-level championships, consistently winning gold medals and gaining recognition in the powerlifting community. His exceptional progress has now culminated in his victory on the international stage.

Despite his success at the Powerlifting World Cup, Umang remains focused on his ultimate goal — to elevate India’s reputation globally in strength sports and make his late mother proud. With an unwavering drive, Umang is determined to continue representing India in upcoming international competitions and push his limits even further. His ambition is a testament to his commitment to excellence, and he is ready to bring India to the forefront of the strength sport community.
