New Delhi (India), November 21: UK-based author and short story writer Vijay Medtia’s latest crime novel “In God’s Country, Karwar” published by Leadstart promises to captivate readers with an intriguing blend of long-lost love, friendship, and murder.
The scenic setting of Karwar, a coastal town near Goa where the story is set, offers a stark contrast to the mysterious murders that take place there. Inspector Rock of Karwar Police investigates the unexpected murders that lack an apparent motive. Running parallel to the investigation, a powerful love story unfolds, interlinking the lives of the central characters. The fast-paced developments leave readers in awe and anticipation.
In addition to the shocking crime narrative, “In God’s Country, Karwar” also explores the themes of love, friendship, coping with sudden loss, and the inevitable grieving process.
“The characters often surprised me. I planned to write one chapter and the character stepped in and wrote another. I often wondered who was actually writing the story,” says the noted author about the twists and turns in his fourth book.
“The book contains humour and intrigue. I have also tried to reflect on society’s complex realities without being judgmental. It took me nearly a year to write this book and I am confident readers will love it. India is alive, unpredictable and spontaneous, and this is great for an author. Living in the UK gives me distance to appreciate this aspect of India,’’ adds the author.
Vijay Medtia is based in the UK but he regularly visits India to draw inspiration for his literary works. His debut novel “The House of Subadar” was published in the UK in 2007 and was short-listed for the Glenn Dimplex Literary Prize, Dublin 2008. His second novel, “The Missing Husband”, was also published in the UK in 2019 and received good reviews. His third novel “The Lost Woman of Santacruz” was published in 2021, and has garnered the interest of an Indian production house to be adapted into a film or a crime drama for an OTT platform. Each of his previous works has received positive reviews and established him as a prolific storyteller.
Unlike the first two novels, “The Lost Woman of Santacruz” and “In God’s Country, Karwar” have been published in India. Vijay Medtia says his experience of getting published in India has been positive. He points to the fact that India is a huge market and suggests that aspiring authors should not limit themselves to publishers in the UK.
He loves the quote “There is nothing impossible for him who will try”, by Alexander the Great, since it perfectly encapsulates his journey in the literary world.
“In God’s Country, Karwar” has been published by Leadstart Publishing. It was released on October 17 and is available in both paperback and ebook formats on Amazon.
