Nachiket Joshi Delivers Keynote on Trust in Science and Technology at United Nations Forum
New York (USA), May 5: Nachiket Joshi, Director of Global Vision India Foundation, was invited as an intervention speaker at the 8th Annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from May 2-5, 2023. During the event, Mr. Joshi delivered an impactful speech on the topic ‘The Importance of Strengthening Trust in Science and Technology for Accelerating Recovery from COVID-19’ on May 3, 2023.
In his speech, Mr. Joshi outlined the critical steps taken by India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to tackle the challenges posed by the pandemic and build trust in science and technology. He also stressed the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach to ensure that the public receives reliable and accurate information about the pandemic and its far-reaching impacts.
“A comprehensive science communication strategy was implemented to foster public understanding and trust in science. Platforms like ‘Mann Ki Baat’, a direct communication channel between the Prime Minister and the citizens of India, played a vital role. The program, which recently aired its 100th episode, was broadcast live at the UN Headquarters, where discussions about ongoing scientific research during and after the pandemic were highlighted. This broadcast reached remote areas of India and garnered global attention. India’s transparent, evidence-based approach in developing and distributing vaccines, with publicly shared data, was central in ensuring trust,” said Mr. Joshi.
In addition to his speech, Mr. Joshi engaged with delegates from various countries and organizations, sharing India’s success story with its vaccination program. He emphasized that India’s vaccination initiative, under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, stands as one of the most successful campaigns globally, drawing widespread international recognition. India began administering vaccines on January 20, 2021, and by January 2023, the country had provided vaccines to almost 150 nations. India has distributed 282 million doses globally, while 2.2 billion doses have been administered within the country.
