Child Help Foundation Launches ‘NikshayMitra’ Initiative to Support Tuberculosis Patients in Mumbai

Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 9Child Help Foundation (CHF), in collaboration with Filaantro, has launched a significant initiative called ‘NikshayMitra’ to assist Tuberculosis (TB) patients in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort to combat TB and is successfully being executed with the help of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The NikshayMitra Initiative: Supporting TB Patients

On 17th September 2022, the Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, called on the public to support NikshayMitra and help those suffering from Tuberculosis. In response, Child Help Foundation (CHF) has committed to distributing nutrition kits to forty children suffering from TB in Mulund, Maharashtra, on a monthly basis for the next six months. The kits, valued at Rs 600 each, are part of CHF’s contribution to the fight against TB.

Why Tuberculosis is a Concern in Mumbai

While Tuberculosis is preventable, poverty, poor sanitation, and lack of access to hygienic food and resources pose a significant challenge, particularly for underprivileged communities. As part of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat initiative, the Government of India aims to eliminate Tuberculosis by 2025, making this initiative crucial to India’s vision for a TB-free nation.

Shaji Varghese, the CEO of Child Help Foundation, spoke about CHF’s commitment to the cause: “We recognize the threat of tuberculosis and its widespread prevalence, especially in areas with poor sanitation. Through initiatives like NikshayMitra, CHF, in partnership with Filaantro and BMC, is contributing to the fight against TB and providing much-needed support to those most vulnerable. We encourage others to join us in this mission.”

What’s in the Nutrition Kit?

Each nutritional kit provided by CHF contains the following essential items to support the health and recovery of children suffering from Tuberculosis:

  • 2 kg Rice
  • 2 kg Wheat Flour
  • 2 kg Groundnuts
  • 500 grams Tur Dal

  • 500 grams Jaggery
  • 250 grams Dates
  • 1 litre Groundnut/Sunflower Oil
  • 250 grams Rajma
  • 250 grams Red Gram (Lal Chana)
