In addition to his gold medal win, Umang also earned a bronze medal in Strict Curls, a discipline unfamiliar to him, known in the powerlifting world as arm lifting. Despite never having trained in Strict Curls before, Umang was selected to represent India in the competition. Just 12 hours before the event, he received guidance on the technique, relying on his existing strength and applying it successfully. His perseverance paid off as he secured a top three finish out of eleven competitors, an impressive feat considering it was his first attempt.

Expressing his gratitude, Umang thanked his sponsors, whose support made his journey possible. “I’d especially like to mention Miraj Sir, the Senior Vice President of Bhawanipore College Society; Pradeep Sir, the Secretary; Jitendra Bhai Shah, the Joint Secretary; as well as Sports Officer Munna Bhaiya and Bhavin Sir for their invaluable contributions,” Umang shared.

Umang practices powerlifting at VFA Gym in Kolkata under the mentorship of Vineet Mishra. “I cannot forget the countless hours he spent training me, pushing me beyond my limits, and helping me discover my true strength. His expertise, patience, and willingness to go the extra mile to ensure I understood the techniques and strategies of powerlifting had been truly a blessing. He has been an exceptional teacher and mentor,” said Umang.

He also expressed immense gratitude to Amber Jha, the President of Jan Dwar Mission, for his constant support. “I used to work as a personal trainer at Anytime Fitness, Kolkata, balancing my time between college, work, and training. During this period, I met Amber Jha, who quickly became like an older brother to me. His support and sponsorship were crucial in my journey to this victory,” Umang adds.

Starting from district-level competitions, Umang Jaiswal gradually climbed his way through state and national championships, finally reaching the pinnacle of powerlifting on the international stage, consistently securing gold medals along the way.

His victories reflect not only his exceptional strength but also his deep dedication to powerlifting. Despite his recent success, Umang remains committed to his goal of elevating India’s reputation in the world of strength sports. His determination is driven by the desire to make his mother proud and to continue representing India in future international competitions.

Umang Jaiswal’s journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes, and his achievements are a testament to the power of hard work and determination.
