Students from Assam move Supreme Court seeking cancellation of Class 10, 12 Board exams

A gaggle of college students in Assam Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking instructions to cancel Class 10 and 12 state board examinations, slated to be tentatively held in the first week of August.

Represented by advocates Abhishek Choudhary, Prabhu Prassana Behera, Ritika Ritu, Abhishek Patnaik and Nabab Singh, the scholars are seeking instructions for cancellation of exams in addition to a “formulation for efficiency analysis”. The software stated that this needs to be in step with the formulation adopted by CBSE and different schooling boards.

The growth comes after state Education Minister Ranoj Pegu final week stated that the exams can be held between August 1 and 15, if the scenario is below management.

In Assam, the Class 10 examination is performed by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and the Class 12 examination by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). Approximately seven lakh college students (2.5 lakh from Class 12 and 4.5 lakh from Class 10) are supposed to seem for the exams. Both exams had been initially scheduled for May 11. Following Pegu’s announcement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated the exams will occur if the positivity price in Assam stays under two per cent within the first week of July.

Students have continued to register their protest — with the hashtag #CancelAssamBoardExams — on social media, citing well being issues in the course of the pandemic.
