The 300-year-old Salaam Aarti in Karnataka temples has been renamed. Now it will be known as Sandhya Aarti. The state government has decided to rename the temple rituals like ‘Salaam Aarti’, ‘Salaam Mangal Aarti’ and ‘Deewatige Salaam’ to local names since the time of 18th century ruler Tipu Sultan. This decision was taken on the demand of Hindutva organizations.

Hindu organizations had demanded the state government to end the rituals in the name of Tipu Sultan. Salam Aarti was also included in this. On the other hand, former Karnataka CM and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy condemned the decision and accused the BJP of diverting from the issues. He said that BJP wants to change our history and old cultures.

In the general budget of the year 2013-14, the central government had created the Nirbhaya Fund keeping women in mind. In June this year, the Mumbai Police bought vehicles under the Nirbhaya Fund by spending over Rs 30 crore. But these vehicles are being used to provide Y category security to 12 MPs and 40 MLAs of Shinde faction.
