Rakesh Roshan: Renowned film producer and artist of Hindi cinema, Rakesh Roshan had approached the Bombay High Court in 2011 for the return of the remaining Rs 20 lakh out of Rs 50 lakh duped by two accused. Both the thugs Ashwini Kumar Sharma and Rajesh Ranjan were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in 2011 for duping over 200 people including film personalities and businessmen. Let us tell you that in May 2011, Roshan received a call from two accused, who introduced themselves as CBI officers and cheated the film producer of Rs 50 lakh. The amount was paid on June 13, 2011 and thereafter there was silence from both the sides. Roshan grew suspicious and lodged a written complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Maharashtra. His plea states that as per the 2012 order passed by the trial court, Rakesh had received Rs 30 lakh, but he is yet to receive the remaining Rs 20 lakh. The trial court had allowed Rakesh to withdraw Rs 30 lakh till the pendency of the trial against both the accused. Well, when the hearing of the case was not yet completed, Rakesh submitted an application before the trial court in August 2020 for the remaining amount of Rs 20 lakh. Explain that the court rejected Rakesh’s application in December 2021 saying that he was essentially seeking review of the 2012 order. The sessions court had said that Rakesh’s application was not maintainable as the filmmaker had not challenged the 2012 order. Rakesh then moved the High Court seeking quashing of the orders passed by the Sessions Court in 2012 and 2021.
