PM Narendra Modi on Monday reiterated the importance of reforming the UN multilateral system, including the Security Council, so as to truly reflect contemporary geopolitical realities in a meeting with UNGA president Csaba Korosi.
Korosi, who is visting India for what is his first bilateral visit, called on Modi on Monday and also met foreign minister S Jaishankar.
On the issue of UNSC reforms, Korosi came out openly against the five permanent members ā China, France, Russia, UK and US ā for dragging their feet while backing Indiaās position.
He also appreciated Indiaās recent role as a non-permanent member in the Security Council. Korosi also said that he had high hopes from Indiaās G20 presidency, not least to protect the interests of the Global South.

Modi thanked Korosi for making India his first bilateral visit since assuming office and appreciated Korosiās approach based on science and technology to find solutions to global problems.
At a media briefing,The UNGA president described the meetings as āvery goodā and said the focus was on how the world should look like and what could be Indiaās role.āThe level of support and understanding, the level of strategic resonance, exceeded all my expectations,ā he said.
The government said in a statement that Korosi lauded Indiaās transformational initiatives for communities, including in the area of water resource management and conservation.
āAcknowledging Indiaās efforts towards reformed multilateralism, Csaba Korosi underscored the importance of India being at the forefront of efforts to reform global institutions,ā it said.
To a question, Korosi said the issue of cross-border terrorism was not on the agenda of the discussions, ābut I am fully aware how important this issue is for this country and in some other parts of the worldā.
