Anuja Sahai: From Corporate Job to Singing Sensation, A Journey of Passion and Purpose
New Delhi (India), May 12: For some, singing is just another profession, but for Anuja Sahai, it’s been a lifelong passion that led her to make a bold decision to leave her corporate job and pursue her true calling. With a degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering and an MBA in Marketing, Anuja initially settled into a high-paying corporate job at a multinational company in Hyderabad. However, her heart always longed for music, which she found herself missing more each day. Despite the security of her corporate job, Anuja made the courageous decision to follow her passion for singing, a choice that would shape her future and bring her immense happiness.
Since childhood, Anuja had been actively participating in music programs and fashion shows, showcasing her talents. Although she was a trained singer, her decision to leave her corporate career was met with skepticism from her parents, even though they always supported her. Anuja, however, was unwavering in her resolve, and today, she is proof that following one’s heart can lead to success and fulfillment.
Language has never been a barrier for Anuja. In addition to Hindi and English, she sings in multiple languages, including Punjabi, Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, Marathi, Bengali, and various South Indian languages. Her hit songs such as “Payal,” “Rajaji,” “Meera,” “Bitiya Howe Chiraiya,” “Pub G Ki Game,” “Dil Hoom Hoom,” “Talash Khud Ki,” and “Gallan Mahi Diyan” have been released by major music labels like T-Series, Sony Music, Zee Music, and Times Music. Anuja has performed for prestigious clients including BSE, ONGC, Thane Municipal Corporation, Rotary Club, and Chinmaya Mission South Africa. She has also performed internationally in countries like Singapore, Thailand, Dubai, Nepal, and South Africa.
Anuja’s journey as a playback singer began while she was pursuing her MBA. Her first big break came when a Telugu film producer, impressed by her voice during a college singing competition, offered her the chance to sing for a movie. Interestingly, Anuja’s romantic track from the film became a hit, while the legendary Sunidhi Chauhan sang an item song for the same project. From that point onward, there was no turning back for Anuja.
One of Anuja’s greatest inspirations is the versatile Kishore Kumar. She admires his ability to not only sing across various genres but also act with the same level of skill. Anuja reflects, “Singing is like acting with your voice, and Kishore Kumar was a master of this. His versatility in singing and acting made him an icon.” Anuja aspires to emulate his legacy, blending both singing and acting in her career.
In addition to singing, Anuja is also a prolific TV host and VJ, having hosted numerous shows across the country. She owns a studio and leads her own band, ‘Rutbaa’. Anuja shares, “I’ve gained a lot of experience as a TV host and VJ, and I’ve even acted in several of my own music videos. But my dream is to act in films and web series while continuing to pursue my music. I don’t just want to be known as a singer; I want to be recognized as a versatile actor, just like Kishore Kumar.”
Anuja’s aspirations extend to acting in meaningful cinema, particularly roles that portray historical characters or inspire others. “Offers are already coming in, and I’m excited to explore these opportunities,” she says, signaling the next chapter in her career.
