Anubhav Dadhwal Becomes India’s First Ambassador of Memphis Jookin Dance Style

Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 12: Anubhav Dadhwal, also known as Imaginamatrix, has made history as the first Indian street dancer to be named the ambassador of Memphis Jookin, a highly regarded footwork dance style that originated in Memphis, TN (USA). With over a decade of experience in this distinctive style, Anubhav is the first-generation Memphis Jooker in India and was officially certified by Memphis culture in 2022 to represent this unique dance form in the country.

Memphis Jookin is a mesmerizing dance style characterized by unreal tiptoe footwork, glides, slides, ankle breaks, and superhuman footwork that is often likened to ballet—but for the streets. Anubhav’s expertise in Memphis Jookin stands out in India, where his rare and intricate footwork sets him apart from others in the scene. His dedication to this art form has earned him recognition from the OGs (original practitioners) of Memphis Jookin, and he has been teaching the style at some of India’s leading dance education platforms, including Nritya Shakti, Idals, and Kings United India. Anubhav has also had the honor of teaching some of the best choreographers in the Indian dance community, including Mohan Pandey, Kartik Raja, Harshita Gautam, Alex Badad, and Tanishq Joshi.

In 2020, Anubhav collaborated with Shloka, an MTV Hustle rapper, for the project “Shok”, where he performed Memphis Jookin freestyle. The performance was featured on BBC Asia, further amplifying the global recognition of Memphis Jookin in India.

Anubhav’s passion for Memphis Jookin has been instrumental in building the dance community in India. He is the founder and director of the MemphisJookin_India community page on Instagram, a platform that brings together aspiring Memphis Jookin dancers from across the country. This initiative has played a significant role in spreading the dance form in India, with new dancers joining the movement daily. Anubhav’s influence has also been felt on national television—he represented Memphis Jookin as the first Indian street mover on BIGG BOSS 12 in 2018, performing in front of Salman Khan after being sponsored by Feel the Fiz.

Anubhav’s dedication to Memphis Jookin has also led to personal achievements, including setting a 25-second toe stall hold technique record in India, where he balanced on a single toe. He is determined to break his own record soon, demonstrating his relentless pursuit of perfection.

Reflecting on his achievement as the first Indian ambassador for Memphis Jookin, Anubhav shared, “I am thrilled to be the first Indian ambassador of Memphis Jookin. This dance form has been my passion for over a decade, and I am grateful for this recognition. I hope to spread the beauty and uniqueness of Memphis Jookin to more dancers in India and elevate this style to new heights.”

Anubhav’s accomplishment is a significant milestone not only for him but also for the global Memphis Jookin movement. His hard work and expertise have proven that Indian dancers can excel in diverse dance forms on the international stage.

Anubhav’s journey from a passionate learner to becoming the face of Memphis Jookin in India reflects his dedication to bringing this offbeat dance style to the forefront. His achievement has provided India with a unique identity in the global dance landscape, making the nation proud.

We wish Anubhav continued success and look forward to seeing his future accomplishments.
