Maharashtra government has constituted a committee to keep an eye on the interfaith and intercaste marriages, so that cases like Shraddha Walkar murder case are not repeated. There will be 13 members in this committee, who will take information about couples who marry in other religions and castes.

Along with this, this committee will also prepare a list of such women who have been separated from their families to get married. The name of this committee is Intercast / Interfaith Marriage-Family Coordination Committee, which will be headed by Maharashtra’s Women and Child Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha.

Decision was taken so that Shraddha murder case does not repeat
Lodha said that the committee is being constituted so that no incident like Shraddha murder case should happen again. He said- The truth is that Shraddha’s family did not know that she had died six months ago. We do not want another faith.

He further said that after constituting a committee, it will be decided whether women are away from their families in such marriages. The committee will monitor at the district level for women involved in such marriages who may be separated from their families, so that they can be helped if needed.

At the same time, NCP opposed this decision saying that the state government has no right to interfere or spy on anyone’s personal life.

Intercaste marriages in Maharashtra get Rs 3.5 lakh
In Maharashtra, if a boy or girl marries a Scheduled Caste, they are given an incentive of Rs 3.5 lakh under the Intercaste Marriage Scheme. The benefit of this scheme is available only to those people who have got their marriage registered under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 or the Special Marriage Act 1954.

For the benefit of this scheme, you have to first apply under the State Government Caste Marriage Scheme. The objective of the scheme is to eliminate discrimination regarding intercaste marriages in the state.
